Central Station Approach

The extension from Brunswick Dock to Central Station was achieved at great cost: a total of 2,041 yards of tunnelling debouching onto an extremely restricted area. A photograph taken from the end of its main platform shows an engine refuge topped by a water tank. In the aerial view the bridges can be seen beyond the new Central Station next to the former Lewis’s on the left. Plans were afoot before the recession to develop the area but have not yet been realised, and it remains in use as a car park.
